What is prenatal care?

Prenatal care is the healthcare you receive throughout your pregnancy. After your initial new OB appointment our physicians will have you return to the office for routine appointments to track the development of your baby and monitor your health. Regular prenatal care helps decrease risks during pregnancy and increases the opportunity to have a safe healthy delivery. The typical appointment schedule is as follows:

  • Once a month from your new OB appointment through 28 weeks
  • Twice a month, 28 weeks through 36 weeks
  • Weekly, 36 weeks through delivery

At each visit your vital signs, weight, and overall health will be evaluated. Your physician will also monitor the growth of your baby to make sure they are meeting important developmental milestones. This is done by listening to your baby’s heart tones, measuring the growth of your uterus, and by ultrasound.

Elective Ultrasound Services

We offer elective ultrasounds to our patients here in our office by our ARDMS Board-Certified ultrasound technician who has over ten years of experience. Having your ultrasound here provides the security of knowing that Dr. Cortez and Dr Collins are available to review all ultrasounds if needed and the comfort of being in a familiar place with familiar faces. We know that 9 months can be a long time and sometimes being able to see your baby before you can hold him or her can provide needed reassurance, comfort, and joy.

What is an obstetrician?

An obstetrician is a medical doctor with advanced training to care for women during pregnancy, labor, and birth. The doctors at Cross Roads Hormonal Health & Wellness are board-certified obstetricians and members of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

At Cross Roads, the doctors aim to provide the care and attention you need to help you have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. With over 15 years of work in obstetrics, the medical team is highly experienced in low and high-risk births, pregnancies with single and multiple babies, and holistic childbirth.

What does an obstetrician do?

The obstetricians at Cross Roads Hormonal Health & Wellness provide a variety of prenatal services to help you have the best pregnancy possible. These services include:

  • Preconception counseling
  • Routine and high-risk obstetrics
  • Multiple gestation pregnancies
  • Management of medical complications during pregnancy
  • Obstetric ultrasound including fetal anatomic studies

With these services, the doctors will guide you from conception to birth, taking your needs and desires into consideration each step of the way. Together, you will work with the doctors to achieve a healthy pregnancy and birth in a supported, trustworthy environment.

What happens during a visit to my obstetrician?

Depending on the stage of your pregnancy, you will see the doctors at regular intervals to assess how you are doing. You will also be able to ask any questions you may have on the day of your appointment.

At each visit, you will have your weight, blood pressure, and urine checked to ensure everything is progressing well. The doctors will measure your abdomen and may perform ultrasounds as needed to check on the growth and development or your baby.

In a normal pregnancy, you have two medically necessary ultrasounds — one during your first trimester and one at 20 weeks. If you want additional ultrasounds, the ultrasound technician is available for elective ultrasound services. These elective ultrasounds can give you peace of mind and allow you to check on your baby more frequently if desired.

What happens when I go into labor?

The doctors at Cross Roads Hormonal Health & Wellness develop a labor plan with you leading up to delivery so you will know what to do when contractions begin. The doctors will help you give birth at the hospital and ensure that you and your baby are healthy before you return home.

Pregnancy and birth are exciting but can bring up many questions. Have your questions answered during a consultation with the doctors at Cross Roads Hormonal Health & Wellness. Call or schedule your first visit online today.
